Our Daily Program

Who We Serve

Our Typical Participant

Adults who join PRISM have mild to moderate ranges of intellectual disability and are in varying stages of teens/adulthood. Most of the individuals PRISM serves have graduated from high school. The minimum age is 14-17 during summer months, and 18+ throughout the year.

Regardless of their age, the individuals we serve are looking for support as they begin and/or continue to transition to adulthood.  This transition looks a little different for everybody, and each person is able to move at their own pace.  We serve individuals for as long or as short as they desire.

Individuals join PRISM from all walks of life....

Unemployed, living at home

Employed part-time, but still living at home

Living independently

College student

And they join for many different reasons.

Desire for something purposeful to do each day

Needs assistance getting a job, or needs support with challenges at current job

Desires additional community socialization during the week

Has received a referral from Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation

How Our Program Works

Our daily program focuses on the abilities of the individual to identify and increase current strengths, explore new interests, and develop new skills. We emphasize lifelong learning and work to develop job skills, life skills, and utilize community-based experiences. We also encourage health and wellness by providing instruction on good nutrition and benefits of daily exercise.

Our staff leads independence-focused training in the morning, and then ventures out to work at our job sites or micro-enterprises in the afternoon.

Schedule | Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM

Ages | 18 years or older

Location | PRISM of Georgia (located in Roswell)

Our participants preparing to head into their job site of the day.

Our vocational trainers leading cooking class, one of the many ways that we teach independent living skills to our participants.

We spend lots of time out and about, both as a way to build life skills, and as a way for our participants to interact with the community.

To offer our participants a well-rounded experience, we divide our program into life skills training, job site work, and community engagement.

1

Life Skills

Whether your goal is basic independence, or you desire full time employment, the life skills we teach are vital at many levels.
We teach functional skills, soft skills, and even health and wellness.

2

Job Skills

Job site training is offered and the jobs are tailored to the skills and abilities of each individual. Job site training provides job fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment for all participants. We work with many local and national companies. Job Site opportunities include assembly, packaging, sorting, collating, organizing, stocking, interaction with senior citizens, event preparation and more.

3

Community Inclusion

Through regularly scheduled events in the community, and by having the community regularly visit, interact and shop at PRISM, we focus on all the many teachable moments we encounter to strengthen socially appropriate interactions with all members of our community. It doesn’t take long for members of our community to see that everyone has something to offer!

Do you think PRISM might be right for you or someone you know?

"When we can't fit a square peg into a round hole, we'll usually blame the peg- when sometimes it's the rigidity of our thinking that accounts for our failure to accommodate it."

- Nate Silver

Our Approach

Individualization defines us.

Our philosophy is to adapt to our workers individual needs, and not force the individual to fit into certain parameters. This drives everything we do, and how we choose to do it.

Our experienced team helps change lives.

We employ a team of passionate, experienced and educated people. They make our entire program possible. Plain and simple.

We care about growth, not just employment.

Employment is only one of our many focuses. We help individuals reach their own independence goals, whatever those may be.

Benefits of Our Program

Through our daily program, people with various and diverse abilities can continue to grow long after they finish high school. Every one of our participants grows in their own way, but here are some of the benefits that we see most often.

Fundamental skills

Every day, our participants build skills that apply to every aspect of life: confidence, optimism, self-motivation, and many more.

Independence

Our hands-on approach helps our participants learn responsibility, self-advocacy, and ways to become more independent every day.

Lifelong Relationships

The bond created by many PRISM participants is heartwarming, and the resulting friendships fulfill many of their needs and desires.

Community Integration

Our participants learn to contribute to the community in a meaningful way, whether through employment, volunteering, or other means.

Health and Wellness

The program encourages health and wellness including the benefits of good nutrition, staying properly hydrated and daily exercise.  Eating something green isn’t so bad after all!

Communication

Whether or not our participants use speech as their main method of communication, we ensure every person we serve has the opportunity to improve their communication skills.

PRISM is not the end game. Here is what we know:

“While no specific age has been identified as the age at which the human brain is fully mature, the Washington Post relates that many scientists agree that the brain does not reach maturity until at least the mid-20s. Some studies suggest that the brain continues to develop into the early 30s.”

Our Vocational and Life Skills Trainers

We believe that the key to running a successful program is to empower a team of dedicated individuals who truly care and want to make a difference. Each member of our team brings something different to the table, but they all have one thing in common: They are passionate about changing the lives of our participants.

William Albino

VR Instructor, Vocation and Life Skills & Job Coach

William Albino, Lead Vocational Services Instructor and Job Coach of PRISM, is a recent Georgia transplant having moved from Pembroke Pines Florida in 2017. William knew that he wanted to focus on working with adults transitioning from high school and we were thrilled to provide him the opportunity even if it meant moving to a new state! In 2014, William transferred from Florida International University to Florida State University to further expand his academics. Upon his time at FSU, he chose to specialize in transition services for students with disabilities. He spent a year and a half interning at a local transition program for individuals with disabilities in Tallahassee, FL. It was through this internship that he gained knowledge in providing vocational and life skills intervention techniques for students who have just transitioned out of high school. At this internship, he also provided students with community-based work experience, trainings and supports through a variety of job sites.

William has a combined Bachelors and Masters of Science degree in Exceptional Student Education and Curriculum and Instruction. He continues to bring his knowledge and passion to the team and has been successful in supporting individuals with disabilities who seek to find and maintain employment.

Nikayla Turner

Skills Instructor and Coach

Nikayla Turner is a native of Darwin Australia but has spent the majority of her life growing up in Georgia.  She found her passion for special needs education as an elective in high school where she served as a teacher’s assistant for special needs students.  After school, she began her career path following another one her passions in the cosmetology field.  This led her back to her native Australia where she held an apprenticeship in her family’s former salon.  After roughing it in the Outback she grew homesick for the States and decided to move back to Georgia and rekindle her love for children and education.  Nikayla began working for a family in Atlanta who had a young child with autism, and when a career transfer resulted in an abrupt move for this family, she found the good fortune to come across an open position working with the PRISM Director's son.  It was evident from the start that Nikayla has the natural attributes and abilities to work, instruct and mentor adults with disabilities.  With that, Nikayla joined the PRISM staff and now provides support to the team while specifically assisting with coaching, events, and marketing.  We all appreciate Nikayla’s enthusiasm and passion for helping individuals learn life skills in the home and work environments.

Funding Options

There are 2 primary ways to fund our Daily Program for your son or daughter.

1. Out of pocket tuition

Tuition makes the most sense for individuals looking for a long term program, but who don't have employment on the near horizon.

Starting at $80 per day

We calculate the cost of daily tuition based on a number of factors. In simplest form, we multiply an hourly rate ($80) by the number of hours per day that your son or daughter plans on attending. Our hourly rate comes from the combined cost of our job coaches, transportation provided, and other costs involved with serving each participant.
